It’s spring vacation week for New York City public schools which means James and I have been playing a ragtag game of parenting relay, tapping each other in and out of the mêlée to eek out our work. Because of the nature of our jobs, this means I need to mostly parent during daytime hours and hope that I still have the wherewithal to work after a day of caring for kids. James needs to work during daytime hours and hope that he still has the wherewithal to parent after a day of teaching other people’s kids. How are we managing? Not so great! Not so bad!
Our kids are at an age when they’re more able to fend for themselves themselves, for one thing. For another, they’ve been playing jacks and doing chores.
