my week in objects (mostly).
a v good book, brand-new playing cards, new life for an old tee, and other things.
1. this perfect potholder.
{from a favorite old tee.}
2. this multi-purpose butter.
{for a kiddo who needs it.}
3. this book.
{for being so human and so smart. (my only regret is that i haven’t been reading it with a martini.)}
4. this needle case.
{and remembering to bring it to a meeting.}
5. these cards.
{and the extreme luxury of two brand-new decks.}
I’m currently running a 20% discount off yearly subscriptions to Make/Do and today is the last day! If you’re able to take the leap to a paid subscription, now is a very good time to do it. As always, thank you so much for your support. It means the world and the rent.
other things:
vote olivia k and the parkers no hay frontera.
this ain’t a branding problem.
how many times must we say the same thing in a hundred different ways? (related.)
emotional support inner-wrist tattoo.
why and in what ways does a child’s story or drawing need to be “impressive”? impressive to whom? (for ny’ers: related!)

Thought of you this week while listening to Ezra Klein’s interview with Stewart Brand about his new book: The Maintenance of Everything: Part One. At one point Ezra notes that we call it maintenance when it is for things but care when it is for people. This might not be as revolutionary to you or others, but it is a connection I had not seen before.
My word for the year is care - so it is something I have been thinking about a lot recently. It shed new light on how much I have valued your work and writing as a touchstone in my day-to-day.
