my week in objects (mostly).
mussel shells, fallen apples, brass candlesticks and other things.
1. mussel shells.
{for always being perfect.}
2. this brass candlestick.
{and the unofficial start of reading-by-candlelight season.}
3. the fallen apples in this driveway.
{marking back-to-school for me since 1992.}
4. this blanket.
{and finally bothering to put in on the bed on the first chilly night of summer.}
5. this flowering mint.
{plus approximately one million pollinators.}
other things:
the sterile world of infinite choice.
they built their optimism around us.
the practice of taking pleasure in aesthetics.
one-in-every-color capitalism.
been sleeping on my mom’s flower pillowcases lately. newly tempted by these.
Love all these. I sewed flower pillowcases last year with ditsy floral cotton from
blackbird fabrics (a Canadian favourite), and there’s something wonderful about a high-impact, low-effort project (and sleeping on flowers).
I've been reading the House Machine newsletter recently (which I found from Living Small) and thought you might enjoy this piece on acting as a steward of your home: https://www.yourhousemachine.com/p/escaping-the-tyranny-of-home-makeover
