I FULLY guffawed out loud to "Shockingly, this approach rarely works out well." !!!

Anyway I saw on IG that you DID in fact finish this, perhaps my most personally irritating and persnickety project, and that is looks great!!!

I am doing the same! Though I am older than you by more than a decade - so right now I am using my own body’s weight, but yes - close to failure. And I am thrilled to say that getting up and down from the floor with my five year old God son as we play zoo and a black caiman is sneaking up on you and is about to devour you has gotten easier - a fall after stepping into a hole (dug by 5 year old God son) was momentarily painful but the effects were quickly overcome. And hopefully this new found strength that is giving me so much pleasure will also be what powers me through the work of resistance. I can’t wait to see what you create for your light - it’s going to be unexpected and great.

My dumbbells are currently gathering dust but this is a good reminder try again! For a while I got really into Mrs. Muscle's videos on youtube- I LOVE her. no paywalls, no ads during the videos, high production value, and you can find literally anything that might suit your workout need in that moment. if you want like, a video without weights and with no jumping and it's under 10 minutes, she's got you covered. HUGE video library, so much variety it was hard for me to make excuses! (at least until it wasn't hard, lol)

You are echoing some of my own thoughts and activities. I have been rock climbing for about two years now (at a gym only) and the difficulty of climbs I have attempted has been pretty static thus far this year. But the last two times I decided to try some harder climbs, taking the attitude of "so what if I don't get to the top? It's worth a try." And by making small movements, I have actually reached the top of two more difficult climbs over the past 2 weeks. I have also taken this approach to my knitting, starting a more difficult project using several colors for my granddaughter. As in nature, all the anemones in her sweater are not uniformly perfect, but I'm happy with the result, which involved ripping out and, yes, stepping away a few times. All of this is to say, that pushing oneself to try more difficult things -- with the possibility of failing -- is so worth the effort.

Ah, love all of this! Thank you for sharing!

The paper pendant and the principle/perspective discussed here are both beautiful but I really came to say that I'm very excited you've jumped on the strength training train! I've been lifting for a couple of years now and it's helped me physically a ton, and mentally too. There are plenty of ways that the mentality and techniques of lifting apply to the rest of life, as you say.

Hoping I can stick with it!
