Dispatches and digests.

Very rarely about tea.

Tea Notes is an extended universe of the original Reading My Tea Leaves blog, started on a whim by me, Erin Boyle, in 2009 and continued in a new iteration today as a reader-supported newsletter. You can expect musings on sustainable lifestyle choices, consuming thoughtfully in an age of mass-consumption, slowing down, making things yourself, and generally seeking delight wherever it can be found.

Some recurring TEA NOTES features include:

My Week in Objects
A weekly round up of single-object photographs, mostly closeup and an accompanying list of links to thoughtful writing, interesting events, promising initiatives and other things might intrigue or delight.

Recent Observations
Once-monthly observations.

A Few Small Things
A monthly round-up of a few small things that are serving a purpose, scratching an itch, bringing some relief, solving a problem, or bringing some joy.

Unreal Estate
Daydreaming moodboards for imaginary rooms.

Personal Essays
Periodic pieces about whatever’s niggling at me, whatever I’m currently grappling with, whatever I think needs saying.

You can still visit Reading My Tea Leaves to explore the entire 14-year archive, and enjoy an occasional new post, but I’ve moved the bulk of my online writing to TEA NOTES. (Here are some reflections on why!)

Thanks so much for your support and patience as I explore a new model for writing and sharing and making community online.

If you’re a bookish type, my brand-new book MAKING THINGS, with co-author Rose Pearlman is a big book filled with accessible projects to make yourself. More than being just a craft book, it’s an invitation to a kind of wholesale reimagining of our relationships to objects and materials and our ability to make and manipulate them—and the meaning we can derive from that practice. Consider my 2016 book, SIMPLE MATTERS for more about my thoughts on living simply, slowing down and curbing the tide of relentless consumerism.
