It is tiring so many of your articles at the end of your post “my week in objects mostly” are from Substack… you didn’t used to have articles we basically can’t read without subscribing. I liked your old site much much much better….

I, too, love refillable pens and that particular stationary store is within walking distance for me this week and next. Also, pick up sticks were a big hit with my then-27-year-old son when I included them in a care package sent to him while he was serving in the Peace Corps. And, yes, seeing and hearing Tracy Chapman sing "Fast Car" at the Grammys grabbed so many of our hearts. Also, Erin, congratulations on getting an advance copy of your book! Small moments of joy during yet another week of horror and awfulness in the world.
Ok, thank you for linking W Kamau Bell and convincing me to watch the Fast Car performance because now, even though I'm crying (every. damn. time. with that song!), I appreciate that I got to reassess my knee-jerk biased response to a white male country singer daring to touch it. She looks magnificent and the entire time he looks like he knows that sharing the stage with her is the highlight of his career. Which it is.
