Sub stack ends up being too costly and it’s disappointing everyone is transitioning to this venue. You can get the entire nytimes for $4. per month…

I’ll not be renewing but I’m buying your book.

I hear you. It was a big leap of faith for me to move to a subscription model and I understand there are downsides--for one it’s just not possible to support every writer we love individually! Substack isn’t perfect but it has kept me afloat. Thanks so much for the support you were able to give here and huge thanks for your support of my book.

I know you're a big fan of Substack, so wondering whether you've considered leaving the platform based on the company's recent stance on freedom of speech. It's a complicated issue for sure, but would love to hear how you've been thinking about it if you're willing to share.

Hi, I have and still very much am. I’ve shared my thoughts--and other folk’s shared thoughts- in Notes a number of times. I’m so grateful for the leadership of far more established folks on this platform (Anne Helen Petersen, Lyz Lenz, Sari Botton, Virginia Sole-Smith and others) and have been following their lead. I’ve also sent personal emails to my staff contacts at Substack and have been waiting this week for a return email regarding scheduling a phone call. Leaving this platform would be such a shame and I’m hoping things won’t come to that, but it’s certainly on the table.

Thanks for your response, Erin, and apologies that I missed the prior ones. I still don't really understand what "Notes" are here or how they differ from other content (is that just Substack's term for "comments"?), but appreciate you sharing where you're at on this issue at the moment.

No apologies! Sorry if that sounded curt; with kids!
